Although it would have been valid to disaggregate this list into “human rights violations”, “affected population” and other categories to allow more structured searches, the partner chose to gather all the describing terms within the same list and allow the multiple selection between them. This way, search stages were reduced and, thus, searches were more intuitive for users. Each option entails advantages and disadvantages, so selecting the most appropriate depends on the ability to bring all these questions to the table. The list of descriptive terms that we have presented was the result of the CEJIL efforts to analyze cases and documents belonging to the Interamerican Human Rights System. The database includes another list of relevant terms used to locate judgements and resolutions by type.
